It was definately one of my very favorite books when I was a girl.
My Mom gave me this copy for Christmas of 1975.
I have treasured it for many years.
I bawled my eyes out when I took this pic of her inscription inside.
Lucy M. Montgomery loved her parents, too!
She dedicated this book to them.

What a lovely post and you commented that the book is the same and I see that. This book has an inscription inside Says, Happy Easter from Mimi l973 (it was a used book) A l970 edition. I love your post and that sweet cup and saucer and doll!
ReplyDeleteI discovered the Anne books at the library. The children's section was in the basement and I was bored. So I snuck up the winding backstairs to the main part of the library and hid in the tall stacks of the young adult/adult section, away from the eyes of the stern librarian who had shushed me out of there before. Certainly with the Anne books, there was nothing in them "forbidden" but the old librarian was very territorial! Anyway, I was enraptured and, to this day, I dream of some future time when I can visit Prince Edward Island. I always remember from that long-ago library "find" in 1965, when I finished the one book with an ending quote from Anne (poet's name escapes me), "God's in his Heaven; all's right with the world." I've repeated it throughout my life. Good books are indeed heaven-sent.

You know, my relatives came to P.E.I. from Wales and Scotland so these books hold a special place in my heart! My girls both read them too. A few years ago I bought the whole set of the DVD series (it was pretty good) for one of my daughters! A nice tea is perfect!

ReplyDeleteMichele, this is a lovely post celebrating one of my favorite books. I enjoyed Anne of Green Gables when I was a young teen. The zucchini bread looks moist and delicious and I am sure it would be even better with a nice cup of tea from that beautiful cup. Do you collect porcelain dolls? Seeing your cute doll reminds me that I should show my collection sometime. Michele, it is obvious from the way you speak of your mother that you were very close to her and miss her very much. I am glad for you that you have such wonderful memories of her and I know her love is with you always. To have her handwriting in the book you enjoy so much must be comforting each time you look at it. I enjoy coming to your blog because I know there will always be something lovely, interesting or inspirational. -------
